Here the two pieces have been combined to celebrate the Metropolitan Opera’s 1994/95 season opening, an operatic tour-de-force with Luciano Pavarotti and Plácido Domingo in the starring roles. Pavarotti gives his very first stage appearance of Canio in Pagliacci, while Domingo sings the leading role in Il Tabarro.
In both operas, singer-actress Teresa Stratas and baritone Juan Pons lead strong supporting casts. Under the baton of James Levine and director Brian Large, this documents an unforgettable evening in one of the worlds leading opera houses, and a first time release on DVD.
