Spirits of Music Part 2 - DVD Classical - Spirits of Music Part 2

The second part of 2002's Spirits of Music concert is released on TDK this month, featuring two versatile and renowned musicians: Bobby McFerrin and Nigel Kennedy.TDK presents the second part of a very special night on DVD: On 15 June 2002 over 20,000 spectators witnessed a unique meeting of classical, jazz and world music on Leipzig's central market square. Musicians from Britain, Bulgaria, Cuba, Germany, Norway, Poland, Syria and the USA took an enthusiastic audience on an unusual musical journey through the centuries and across continents, a journey ranging from spirituals to Ravel, from Bach to Klezmer, from African folk music to Mozart.

This DVD documents the second half of the evening, the first part having been released by TDK in November 2004 (DV-COSOM1).The event took place under the guiding hand of Bobby McFerrin, recognized worldwide as a brilliant jazz musician who has won ten Grammy Awards and whose conducting talents have inspired many of the world's leading orchestras. Along with his remarkable solo vocal improvisations he brought a charming and unconventional manner to his conducting of the Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchestra, one of Germany's most renowned orchestral ensembles. Throughout the night, McFerrin is supported by the second great genre-migrant of the evening: violinist Nigel Kennedy, with whom he improvises Miles Davis's All that Blues.
